Hi! My name is Kira Chung, In my freshman year of high school, I moved to Manhattan Beach after living in Hong Kong for 11 years, and in London for three years. At first, American culture was a shock to me. I wanted to learn to be like everyone else and fit in.
Consequently, I forgot about my ethnicity and what shaped me as the person I am today. Being biracial is a big part of my life and in Hong Kong, I was perceived as fully Asian, but here in the US, I feel fully white. As an international student, I have noticed that there isn’t representation for various ethnicities and cultures, and therefore, most cultures are misunderstood and misrepresented. Culture Shock is here to invite people from my community to discuss their experiences as international residents and speak about their daily lives and their struggles.
