About Me

Hi! My name is Kira Chung, In my freshman year of high school, I moved to Manhattan Beach after living in Hong Kong for 11 years, and in London for three years. At first, American culture was a shock to me. I wanted to learn to be like everyone else and fit in. Consequently, I forgot about my ethnicity and what shaped me as the person I am today. Being biracial is a big part of my life and in Hong Kong, I was perceived as fully Asian, but here in the US, I feel fully white. As an international student, I have noticed that there isn’t representation for various ethnicities and cultures, and therefore, most cultures are misunderstood and misrepresented. Culture Shock is here to invite people from my community to discuss their experiences as international residents and speak about their daily lives and their struggles.
The goal of this podcast is to open people’s minds to learning new cultures in our community and valuing them. Culture Shock will connect with my high school club “International Love of Various Ethnicities”, and participate in various upcoming events to spread knowledge and solve the lack of understanding of diverse cultures. you can expect a podcast episode one or two times a month. You will hear from all types of people about their cultures in my community. I would like people to try to understand people’s perspectives and try to experience something new through someone else.
